BioBeats is a deep tech company, focusing on biometrics for mental health. I started there as the only product person in the company, taking the lead on the design, user research, and product department. I worked very closely with the CxO, creating processes and being involved in the product strategy. Along with designing the entire product, I also created a cross-department Product team.
I am please to share that BioBeats was acquired by Huma, a global healthcare company who is now developing the next iteration of our mental health experience.
BioBeats' mission was to reconnect people's minds with their bodies, which involved physical and mental health reporting into our app. The more a person reports, the better the therapy the app provides. This means a high level of understanding and engagement with the product, which was conceived by a team of deep scientists. Making the concept easily understood by users was always going to be a challenge.
As the lead designer, I focused all my attention on making our concept accessible. This meant re-thinking everything, to make every interaction with the app emotional, safe and simple. Knowing a lot of our users would be in various distressed states whilst using the app, I prioritised sensitive designs that felt harmonious and vulnerable. The results were a way better adherence over time, along with countless positive feedback on the new adaptive Health score displayed on the homepage. I also spent time working closer with our team of scientists, researchers and engineers to push our offer further.
I have written in-depth case studies of some of the more complicated work I led during my time at BioBeats. This will give you an idea of how I like to work!
Our homepage and its Wellbeing Score didn't land with our users. Most of them didn't know what to make of the data, and didn't get redirected to the right parts of the app. We changed that dramatically by introducing an adaptive homepage with short, actionable snippets.
Our users kept asking for us to work on our sleep dashboard. We listened to what they needed, and pushed what we knew of sleep data to a comprehensive sleep dashboard that informed without overhwelming our users.
